On June 15, Shanghai Ranking, an authoritative higher education evaluation institution, officially released the 2026 Best Chinese University Majors Ranking. Supported by robust faculty strength, comprehensive talent cultivation systems and outstanding industrial influence, three majors of our School — Chemical Engineering and Technology, Energy Chemical Engineering, and Hydrogen Energy Science and Engineering — have all been awarded the top A+ rating. This milestone places our core chemical engineering majors among the top 2% national elite tier.
Covering 838 majors across 92 major categories and 13 academic disciplines, the 2026 ranking includes 30,710 undergraduate programs from 1,132 universities nationwide. It stands as China’s most extensive undergraduate major ranking to date in terms of major coverage and participating programs. In this ranking, the A+ grade, reserved for programs ranked among the national top 2% or top 2, represents the pinnacle of undergraduate disciplinary strength.
Backed by our university’s profound accumulation in Chemical Engineering and Technology, a Double First-Class discipline, our School has secured A+ ratings for all three flagship majors simultaneously, achieving full coverage of top-tier programs across traditional chemical engineering, low-carbon energy, and cutting-edge hydrogen energy tracks. This fully demonstrates our School’s leading position in undergraduate talent cultivation for chemical and energy engineering.
·Chemical Engineering and Technology: Our time-honored flagship major, a National First-Class Undergraduate Major with accredited engineering education. It focuses on green chemical engineering, intelligent chemical engineering and fine chemical engineering, and runs an Outstanding Engineers Program. For over six decades, it has cultivated numerous high-caliber engineering professionals for China’s chemical industry.
·Energy Chemical Engineering: Aligned with the national “Dual Carbon” strategy, this major specializes in clean conversion of fossil fuels, carbon capture, utilization and storage (CCUS), and new energy materials, delivering remarkable outcomes through industry-university-research collaborative education.
·Hydrogen Energy Science and Engineering: A national strategic emerging major that delivers full-chain training covering hydrogen production, storage and application. Among China’s earliest undergraduate programs dedicated systematically to hydrogen energy, it effectively addresses the severe shortage of high-end talent for the hydrogen industry.
For years, our College has oriented its development toward major national industrial demands. It assembles high-caliber teaching and research teams led by Academicians, Distinguished Young Scholars, and hosts a National Experimental Teaching Demonstration Center and National Teaching Team. We have built an integrated undergraduate-postgraduate-doctoral talent training system, continuously advancing Emerging Engineering reforms, industry-education integration and joint training programs with enterprises. Our graduates maintain an outstanding reputation for further study and employment, ranking among the nation’s top counterparts.
The triple A+ accolades mark a landmark achievement of our sustained efforts to advance connotation development of world-class majors and nurture outstanding chemical engineering talents. Moving forward, our School will take this ranking as a new starting point. We will further align our disciplinary layout with national demands for the chemical and energy industries, upgrade curricula, strengthen practical education, and consolidate the competitive edge of our world-class major cluster. We strive to cultivate more top-tier innovative engineering talents to fuel high-quality development of China’s green chemical, new energy and hydrogen energy industries.
