China-UK CCUS Symposium was successfully held

In order to continuously promote the cooperation in the field of engineering technology and decarbonization between China and the UK, and to promote international exchanges among engineers and technicians, on May 20, 2024, the China-UK CCUS Symposiumwas held in Beijing University of Chemical Technology. Chen Jianfeng, Secretary General of the Chinese Academy of Engineering and Academician of Beijing University of Chemical Technology, and Martin Brant, Academician of the Royal Academy of Engineering and Professor of Imperial College of Science and Technology, attended the meeting as the conveners of the Chinese and British and delivered speeches.

During the meeting, the two conveners expressed their vision of cooperation on Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage (CCUS) to promote the realization of the “dual carbon” and net-zero emission targets of China and the United Kingdom. Chen Jianfeng said that it is very important for Chinese and British engineering experts and scientists to have the opportunity to share their experiences and introduce policy frameworks and solutions to global climate challenges through offline exchanges, and that CCUS is a key issue in addressing climate change and realizing the global goal of net-zero decarbonization, and he is looking forward to strengthening cooperation and more exchanges with the British side in this area. Martin Brandt believes that climate change is an important challenge facing mankind in the 21st century, and international cooperation on a global scale can provide a solution to the challenge. China and the United Kingdom have respectively put forward the “dual-carbon” goal and the net-zero emissions plan, CCUS, as an important solution, is of great significance in deepening the cooperation between China and the United Kingdom in this field and accelerating the realization of the goal.

Twelve Chinese and British academicians and engineering experts from Guangdong Southern CCUS Center delivered keynote speeches and professional exchanges on the topics of “Technology, Advancement and Challenges: Carbon Capture, Utilization, Sequestration and Transportation”, “Low Carbon Development and Emission Reduction Paths for Building Sector Related Industries”, and so on. Keynote speeches and professional exchanges. At the same time, discussions and exchanges were also held on the opportunities and challenges of CCUS-UK research and innovation cooperation.
