Beijing University of Chemical Technology Appoints Professor Ta Yeong Wu from Monash University Malaysia as Adjunct Professor


On the morning of November 29, 2024, the appointment ceremony for Professor Ta Yeong Wu from Monash University Malaysia as an adjunct professor at Beijing University of Chemical Technology (BUCT) was grandly held in the second-floor conference hall of the university's Conference Center. Professor Wu, the Deputy Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at Monash University Malaysia, was appointed as an adjunct professor of BUCT. The ceremony was attended by Vice President Wang Feng, Director of the Human Resources Office Wang Zhongming, Director of the International Exchange and Cooperation Office Zhang Bing, Deputy Dean of the School of Chemical Engineering Lin Aijun, Executive Director of the Belt and Road Global Cooperation Research Institute Liu Guangqing, and Professor Chen Chang from the School of Chemical Engineering. The ceremony was hosted by Liu Guangqing, Executive Director of the Belt and Road Global Cooperation Research Institute.

    During the ceremony, Professor Chen Chang introduced Professor Ta Yeong Wu’s background, and Vice President Wang Feng presented Professor Wu with the appointment letter. A student representative also presented the university's badge to Professor Wu and offered him flowers.

    In his speech, Vice President Wang Feng emphasized that BUCT has always adhered to an open-door education philosophy, responding to the national “Belt and Road” initiative and actively promoting global academic exchanges and talent development. He stated that Professor Wu’s appointment will help bring together diverse strengths, which will contribute to the development of disciplines such as chemical engineering and environmental engineering at BUCT. It will also enhance international scientific research cooperation and the establishment of innovation platforms, playing a key role in supporting BUCT’s high-quality development under the “Open BUCT” initiative.

    In his address, Professor Wu expressed his honor at being appointed as an adjunct professor at BUCT. He commended BUCT’s academic standing and achievements in the fields of chemical engineering and environmental engineering and expressed his eagerness to engage in further exchange and cooperation with the university. He also expressed his intention to contribute to BUCT's talent cultivation and scientific research efforts.

    After the appointment ceremony, Professor Wu delivered a fascinating academic report titled Furfural Production Using Pretreated Lignocellulosic Biomass as Feedstock to the faculty and students of BUCT. In his presentation, Professor Wu first explained the related technologies and industrial processes for producing furfural from lignocellulosic biomass. He then focused on analyzing the technical challenges that need to be addressed in the production process. He also shared the research progress made by his team in the field of furfural production and emphasized that the feasibility and economic viability of producing furfural from lignocellulosic biomass have significantly improved. This advancement will further promote the development of a green circular economy and reduce environmental pollution.

    Following the report, there was an enthusiastic Q&A session where students eagerly asked questions, and Professor Wu responded with engaging and humorous answers, creating a lively atmosphere at the event.
