The 12th International Conference on Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy Hosted by BUCT Concluded Successfully

On the afternoon of July 7, 2023, the 12th International Conference on Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy hosted by Beijing University of Chemical Technology was successfully concluded in Beijing, which was the first time that this series of conferences was held in China.

The 12th International Conference on Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy lasted 5 days and was held on July 2-7, 2023 in Yanqing, Beijing. This international conference was approved by the Ministry of Education of China and co-organized by Beijing University of Chemical Technology and Tsinghua University. The conference was co-chaired by Prof. Yong Xingyue from Beijing University of Chemical Technology and Prof. Zhang Jianbo from Tsinghua University. Prof. Tan Tianwei, President of Beijing University of Chemical Technology and Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, attended the opening ceremony on July 3 and delivered a speech on behalf of the conference organizer. Academician Sun Shigang of Xiamen University attended the opening ceremony and delivered a speech on behalf of the advisory board and technical committee of the congress. Prof. Chen Xiaochun, former Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Chemical Engineering, Beijing University of Chemical Technology, and Prof. Cheng Daojian, Vice Dean in charge of scientific research, attended the welcome dinner. Prof. Cheng Daojian delivered a speech at the welcome dinner. At the opening ceremony of the conference, the International Technical Committee on Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy awarded Prof. Zhang Jianqing of Zhejiang University and Prof. Annick Hubin of VRIJE Universiteit Brussel, Belgium, the Claude Prize for their contributions to the research and application of electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, which is the first time the Claude Prize has been awarded to a Chinese corrosion electrochemist. This is the first time that the Claude Prize is awarded to a Chinese corrosion electrochemistry scholar. The conference was attended by more than 210 experts and scholars from 12 countries, including France, Germany, Belgium, Brazil, Japan, Korea, Serbia and Slovenia. The conference mainly focuses on electrochemical impedance spectroscopy new theory, technology and instrumentation, corrosion electrochemistry and its applications, electrochemical energy storage and conversion and applications, electrochemical catalytic synthesis, analysis and sensors and other 4 areas, divided in honor of academician Cao Chunan, electrochemical test technology and sensors, metal corrosion, wear and tear corrosion, coatings & conversion membranes, corrosion inhibitors, energy batteries and electrocatalysts, such as the exchange of 8 topics. During the conference, the exhibition of electrochemical instrumentation technology, a short course on Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy and a 3-minute thesis presentation by postgraduate students (3MT Competition) were also held.

The conference, referred to as EIS2023, was funded by the Wang Kuancheng Education Foundation and supported by the International Society of Electrochemistry (ISE), the Corrosion Electrochemistry and Test Methods Committee of the Chinese Society of Corrosion and Protection (CSCCP), the State Key Laboratory of Organic and Inorganic Composites (SKLOCIC), the State Key Laboratory of Automotive Safety and Energy Conservation (SKLASEC), the Key Laboratory of Corrosion and Protection of Materials of Sichuan Province (KLCPM), the China Chemical Industry Information Center (CCIC) and the China Chemical Society Electrochemistry Committee. Ltd. and the Electrochemistry Committee of the Chinese Chemical Society. Electrochimica Acta, Electrochemistry, Biosensor, Chinese Journal of Corrosion and Protection and other domestic and international journals will publish special issues of the conference reports.

A total of 15 conference presentations, 100 oral presentations, 51 wall papers, 62 people participated in electrochemical impedance spectroscopy technology training, 10 people participated in 3-minute thesis presentation (3MT competition) and 14 electrochemical instrument technology manufacturers participated in the exhibition. During the conference, the organizing committee of the conference organized an expert group composed of famous professors and scholars at home and abroad, and selected 3 Cao Chunan awards, 10 excellent report awards, 6 3MT awards, and 10 excellent wall paper awards. Among them, Associate Professor Tang Yumin of School of Materials won the Cao Chunan Award, Dr. Ji Hao Tian of School of Chemical Engineering won the Outstanding Presentation Award and the 3MT Award, Dr. Sun Yanhui of School of Materials won the 3MT Award, and PhD student Dong Xiaomei and MS students Xie Lili and Xia Denghui won the Outstanding Wall Paper Award. During the conference, the International Technical Committee on Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy held a committee meeting in the evening of July 4th. After the recommendation, discussion and voting, the meeting co-opted Yong Xingyue, researcher of Beijing University of Chemical Technology, and Burak, Ulgut, assistant professor of Bilkent University, Turkey, as the members of the International Technical Committee on Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy, and decided that the 13th International Conference on Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy will be held in November, 2026 in Brazil.
