Professor Luo Yong Honored the Young Researcher Award

On August 7-10, 2022, the 15th International Conference on Gas-Liquid and Gas-Liquid-Solid Reactor Engineering (GLS-15) was held at the University of Ottawa, Canada, and Professor Luo Yong from College of Chemical Engineering was awarded theYoung Researcher Award.

The International Conference on Gas-Liquid and Gas-Liquid-Solid Reactor Engineering (GLS) is a long-standing international conference in the field of chemical reaction engineering and multiphase flow reactor engineering, which is held every two years in America, Europe and Asia. The GLS conference covers all aspects of basic research, industrial applications and sustainable development of multiphase flow reactors. The GLS International Conference selects and awards the Young Researcher Award and the Outstanding PhD Thesis Award. The Young Researcher Award is intended to recognize young chemical reactor scientists and is generally given to two people worldwide per conference. After extensive selection by the committee, the 15th International GLS Conference finally selected two winners, Prof. Greeshma Gadikota from Cornell University and Prof. Yong Luo from our university.

Our academician Chen Jianfeng has proposed and founded the technology of supergravity reaction process enhancement and supergravity reactor platform. He led the team to systematically carry out the whole chain research of scientific foundation - innovative equipment - industrial application, and nearly 150 sets of supergravity engineering devices have been successfully applied in chemical industry, energy, new materials, medicine, environmental protection and other fields, which bring significant economic and social benefits, making China's hypergravity industrial technology in the international leading position. Prof. Luo Yong, a member of the team, has systematically studied the synergistic law of transfer rate and reaction rate in multiphase flow reaction process for the enhancement of gas-liquid oxidation and gas-liquid-solid hydrogenation process, and played an important role in the development of industrial-scale supergravity gas-liquid and gas-liquid-solid reactors. We have cooperated with TOTAL (France) and PETRONAS (Malaysia), and have signed several international cooperation projects, achieving good international influence. This award is a result of the College of Chemical Engineering's internationalization strategy during the 14th Five-Year Plan period, and reflects the high evaluation of our researchers by international colleagues.
