On March 25, 2022, SINOPEC announced the results of the first Be the leader program. The project Development of Phase Change Absorbent for CO2 Capture led by Zhang Weidong's research team from Beijing Key Laboratory of Membrane Separation Process and Technology in our college was approved.
In order to further implement President Xi Jinping's important instruction on Be the leader programin an orderly and effective manner, SINOPEC has actively organized a new mode of tackling scientific and technological challenges, focusing on oil and gas, new energy, high-end new materials, low-carbon and environmental technologies and other fields.
Professor Zhang's research team has been engaged in the development and application of new carbon dioxide absorbent, mass transfer enhancement of high viscosity system, and application of degradable membrane for a long time. He has completed a number of authorized patents, published a number of papers, and conducted a concentrated carbon capture experiment of 100t CO2/ year based on the developed phase change absorbent. The energy consumption is reduced by 40% compared with the traditional method, reaching 2.38GJ/t CO2. For this program of“be the Leader”, the research team will focus on the formulation of phase change absorbent, explore efficient absorption and regeneration process based on membrane, and complete the development of low energy consumption phase change absorbent, aiming at reducing the regeneration energy consumption of CO2 capture less than 1.8GJ/t CO2.
